When travelling with a child, safety is paramount. But it's also worth considering other aspects of the journey, such as keeping them entertained or dealing with travel sickness.
New Car Seat Laws
On 18th September 2006, new legislation came into force governing the use of child car seats. In essence, the new regulations stipulate that children travelling in any motor vehicle MUST use the child restraint (baby seats, child seats, booster seats and booster cushions) which is appropriate for their age and weight.
"Are we there yet?"
However long the journey, keeping the kids happy can be a challenge. Audiobooks, games and portable DVD's are ideal ways to pass time, while old favourites like 'I Spy' are great fun for all the family.
What can I do about travel sickness?
Unfortunately, many children suffer from travel sickness. However, there are a few ways to help them during the journey:
-
Place the child in the middle seat if possible, and encourage them to look out of the window.
-
Ginger is good for treating and even preventing mild sickness - Ginger biscuits are ideal for kids!
-
Reading can make travel sickness worse. Try audiobooks instead.
